A maximum of four
people are allowed to shoot at one time
No person (apart
from a designated range officer) should enter the range
until the previous detail has finished and come out
All rifles must
be placed in the gun rack when not being used
(break barrel air rifles may be closed when placed in
the rack but should be broken as soon as they are removed
– all other rifles should be visibly unloaded in
the rack, e.g. bolts open)
All pistols must
be kept in a case when not being used
Safety Guidelines for the Outdoor
Air Range
A maximum of six
people are allowed to shoot at one time in the covered
section – entry/exit to this section must be via
the rear door only
A maximum of one
person is allowed to shoot at one time in the open area
to the right of the covered section – no visitors
or probationary members are allowed to shoot in this area
The red flag must
be raised when shooting is taking place
No person is allowed
forward of the firing point until the range officer has
checked “all clear” from both the covered
and open sections
Only air rifles may
be used in this range – air pistols and live firearms
are not permitted for safety reasons
(FAC air rifles are considered to be in the same category
as live firearms and are therefore not permitted on this
range)
Shooting is only
allowed during daylight hours
Overall Safety Guidelines
Never point a gun
at anyone
Always assume that
a gun is loaded, even if you know it is not Never load
a gun until it is safe to fire and pointing down the range
Always check that
a gun is unloaded when you pick it up
Always check for
yourself that a gun is unloaded when you are passed it
by someone else
Never shoot at anything
which is not a designated target – including wildlife
Always allow
others to see that your gun is unloaded when you are
not shooting

Never handle
a gun on the range when anyone is forward of the
firing point
All guns must
be checked “all clear” and laid down,
pointing down the range, before anyone moves forward
of the firing point
All guns must
be carried in a gun slip or case at all times, except
when being prepared for shooting at a range
No gun should
be dry fired except when pointing down the range
All persons
under 16 must be supervised by a senior club member
when shooting
A range officer
must be designated for each range in use
The range officer’s
instructions must be complied with immediately
You must know
and abide by the laws relating to your gun
