Joining Portishead Shooting Club

We currently have a list of people waiting to join our Club and only take new members approximately twice a year. There is currently an approximate 2 years' wait for people to join.

Please note that we are a members' only club and cannot allow the public on our ranges unless on official visitors' days. We also cannot offer 'taster' sessions, parties, shooting 'gift' days, sighting in facilities or pay-as-you-go.

Procedure

• If you are interested in joining our Club and would like to go onto our waiting list you need to let us know by completing our contact form, specifying which particular area of shooting you are most interested in.
• When your name is nearing the top of the list you will be invited to a Visitors' Day. We hold these approximately twice a year and they take approximately 2 hours. At the Visitors' Day you will be given a tour of the Club and the Secretary will explain how we operate and your obligations as a member. You may also have an opportunity to try out some of the shooting disciplines during your visit. After, you will be free to apply for membership. (Note: there is a non-returnable £25 joining fee payable at the time of application).
• Once accepted as a Probationary Member you will undergo range safety training then need to attend the Club at least 10 times over the following 3 months. This is the minimum length of probation although it is often longer as it is dependent on a number of factors including: your safety on the range, your attendance record, the availability of Club officials to give consideration to your application and the speed with which your background checks are expedited by the Police. During your probation, each time you visit the Club there will be a £6.00 visitors' fee payable.
• If you satisfy all the requirements you will then need to be nominated for membership by a Club member and, if the Secretary is happy that everything is in order, you will then be offered a place. At that time the Club fees become payable. These are currently £215 per annum for adults, £107 for juniors, payable on a pro-rata basis for those joining part way through the year.
